Bridging the Tech Divide: Outrage Overload Joins PODCASTHON to Spotlight Dev Mission
Empowering Future Tech Leaders Through Education & Opportunity
We’re excited to take part in PODCASTHON, a global podcasting charity event where over 1,500 shows are using their platforms to raise awareness for important causes. For our special edition, we’re highlighting Dev Mission, a nonprofit working to close the opportunity gap in the tech industry by training and mentoring young adults from underrepresented backgrounds.
In this episode, we sit down with Leonardo Sosa, founder and executive director of Dev Mission, to discuss the barriers to tech education, digital inequality, and the lack of diversity in the tech workforce. Leo shares his personal journey—from fleeing war-torn Guatemala as a teenager to becoming a leader in tech workforce development—and why he’s dedicated his life to ensuring that young people, regardless of background, can access opportunities in the technology industry.
The conversation highlights the real challenges that many young people face, from lack of access to computers and internet connectivity to the deeper systemic issue of tech’s exclusionary hiring practices. Despite these obstacles, Dev Mission has helped hundreds of young adults gain the skills, confidence, and connections needed to break into STEM careers. With a 90% graduation rate and nearly 300 alumni working in tech, their impact is undeniable.
Leo also shares inspiring stories of Dev Mission graduates, like Eduardo, a former DACA recipient who went from working in a plastics factory to securing a career in IT at a major tech company. These success stories prove that with the right support, mentorship, and training, talented young people from underserved communities can thrive in the digital economy.
