In part one, we learned about some of the brain systems involved in processing outrage porn, that is, media and messaging intended to get us outraged or angry, often about politics, and how our need for social connection evolved to ensure our safety but in modern society sometimes gets in the way and contributes to tribalism, political polarization, and divisiveness.
In this episode of the outrage overload podcast, we continue that discussion and get further into some practical ideas for lowering the temperature.
Outrage Overload Spreading Our Reach
We now have listeners in almost every state in the union, red and blue. Looking at where people listen at the city or town level, it breaks down like this:
This chart represents the political leanings of the locations (city) of the listens. It doesn’t necessarily mean a given listener in that city aligns with the leaning of their city. I.e. they could be a Republican or an Independent in a Democrat-leaning city or vice-versa; but it gives an idea of our distribution.
Here’s what that data looks like for population density of listening locations:
Anyway, it’s nice to see our reach expanding and that we’re serving a good cross-section of the country.
